Today’s a big hockey day, with 12 NHL games scheduled, so there’s no better time to feature fellow hockey fan and author of the Las Vegas Sinners series, Katie Kenyhercz. Though we root for opposing teams in Pennsylvania’s cross-state rivalry, we share a mutual love of and respect for the game itself. Katie says, “When I tell people I write hockey romance, the first reaction is raised eyebrows. Hockey? Why hockey? It’s high speed excitement combined with precise skill and breathtaking grace. It’s a lineup of brothers battling for the good of the team and for each other. You see bonds in hockey stronger than any other sport. They hug after goals. How great is that? I love the silly pranks. I love the smell of the ice, and the bone-deep calm breathing it in before a game starts. I can be anywhere, and if I go to a hockey game, it feels like home. Why hockey? That’s why.”
Ready for more? Check out Katie’s debut novel from Crimson Romance, On the Fly:
Jacey Vaughn has a newly minted MBA when her father dies unexpectedly and leaves her his NHL team. Well-versed in business but not so much in hockey, Jacey navigates this new world with a few stumbles. She definitely doesn’t plan on falling for the team captain. At the first hint of scandal, a local Las Vegas reporter latches on, and Jacey finds herself in the newspaper with headlines that hurt instead of help. Jacey’s determined to keep her father’s legacy alive and make the team successful, but while she has no problem denying her feelings to the media, she can’t lie to herself. Carter Phlynn has known nothing but hockey his entire life. Drafted into the NHL at age eighteen, winning the Stanley Cup is all he’s ever wanted. Nothing has ever disrupted his focus. Not until he meets his new boss. Jacey gets under his skin like no one else, and while dating the team owner would be a disaster for his career and reputation, he can’t get her out of his head. Carter has never had a relationship last more than a month, but the more he’s around Jacey, the more he can’t picture his future without her.
Katie lives in Arkansas with her Air Force husband, where she writes hockey romance. She loves X-Files marathons and eats pizza like a Ninja Turtle. Connect with Katie online:
I’m super happy to announce that DarkFuse will be publishing my novella Conduits. This was, despite its tragic inspiration (the death of a beloved friend), a lot of fun to write. It’s my love letter to Japanese horror and quantum mechanics, and I’m glad it’s in such good hands. More details to come!
The other upcoming publication (so far) is a reprint of my 2004 story “A Taste for It” in the Of Devils and Deviants anthology, which should be out February 2014 from Crowded Quarantine Publications. If you like Storyville hookers and cannibalism, this one’s for you. The cover is great, too!
Last but certainly not least, come back this Friday, Nov. 29, when I’ll be featuring Katie Kenyhercz (aka Katie McGinley), author of the Las Vegas Sinners hockey romance series.
